Comic Wisdom at Jacksonville Presbyterian ChurchThere is an old Hi and Lois comic strip where the father is at the office complaining about another day of drudgery. The mom laments the endless cleaning. The teenage boy grieves the constant pressure of school, and the young girl whines about having to ride the bus again. But in the last slide, the baby in the family looks out the window of the house and exclaims, “ANOTHER DAY!!”

I love this. At first, we might think, “Oh, the innocence of a child.” But on second thought, we realize, “Oh, the wisdom of a child.” I mean, how often do we get caught up in the demands of everyday life and completely miss the beauty and the joy of the day? Our work may be difficult, the pressure intense, the loneliness real; but at the same time, if our eyes and hearts are open, there is tremendous love and goodness and grace all around us. Today, even in the midst of your routines, I invite you to pay attention, and notice God’s presence with you.

Let us pray: This is the day that you have made, O God. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Amen.
