Times Flies at Jacksonville Presbyterian ChurchI could not find the source for the following thoughts, but I found it worth reflecting on the content.

Imagine you had a bank that credited your account each morning with $86,000 but it carried over no balance from day to day. In fact, every evening it cancelled whatever part of the amount you failed to use during the day.

What would you do? Of course, you would draw out every cent, every day, and you would put it to good use!

The truth is, you do have such a bank, and its name is “Time.” Every morning it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it rules off as lost whatever of this you failed to invest to good purpose. It carries over no balances, it allows no overdrafts. Each day it opens a new account with you. If you fail to use the day’s deposit, the loss is yours. There is no going back, and there is no drawing against tomorrow.

As my friend Roger Kunkel used to say, “Today is gift. It is an unrepeatable miracle. May you make it a masterpiece!

Let us pray: God of Grace, we remember today that life is short, and there are no guarantees. We pray with Psalm 90, teach to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Help us to make the most of each and every moment, to love deeply, to give generously, and to rejoice in your presence – this day and every day. Amen.
